Are you seeking individual counseling, couples therapy, or marriage counseling? Everyone needs a safe place to tell their truth, even if it's not the "popular" story so they can be free to live their lives. Sometimes, a culturally sensitive, judgment-free zone makes a big difference in bringing about positive changes in our everyday lived experiences.
Mine Counseling is your session for you to be unapologetically you. It is a place where you get to be in the driver's seat and allow us the honor of being part of your unique journey.
Let us talk about family, friends, work, and relationships; we may also talk about life's challenges, triumphs, and everything else in between. What does a healthy life/work balance look like for you? Together, we can explore new endless possibilities and celebrate your successes.
Let's talk...

Nkem is also an American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT) and Texas State Approved LMFT- Supervisor, and an adjunct professor at Our Lady Of The Lake University (OLLU).
Nkem is a compassionate therapist who works to explore the personal and professional goals and strengths of her clients. She is skilled in cultivating a safe space to process hard topics most people shy away from that bring about beneficial ripple effects in different relationship dynamics and family or conflict interactions.
A note from Nkem: "In my personal and professional experience, people walk around wearing invisible masks- we all put on a "brave face" so as not to be judged in our daily interactions. When asked, "How are you doing today?" The expected response is, "I'm fine." or "I'm doing great, how about you?" Question: Are we fine every day? Let's talk about what's underneath the "I'm fine."
I look forward to talking with you."

Michael has been practicing marriage and family therapy in the state of Texas for 15 years; ten of those years she had the joy of supervising LMFT- Associates and their path to becoming fully licensed clinicians.
Having graduated from the University of Houston- Clear Lake, Michael began her career at HGI Counseling Center, a non-profit serving the greater Houston area. She immersed herself in Collaborative-Dialogic Practices, a theory founded at HGI which is a client-centered approach to therapy.
As a member of HGI's faculty, Michael has trained others in CDP.
During her time at HGI Michael worked with a variety of communities from supporting families at the Attorney General's office, to working in public school settings, as well as crisis response to micro and macro-level traumatic events.
Michael is experienced in working with many diverse populations. She thrives in supporting all couples including those in monogamous and polyamorous relationships, the LGBTQ+ community, and clients who are navigating the aging process.
With a compassionate and collaborative approach, Michael works with clients to create a safe space for conversation and explore the many possibilities for how client's goals can be achieved.
With a storied history in the non-profit sector, Michael has been a therapist, and supervisor, and held a role in leadership.
She has been able to experience many sides of being a therapist and connecting with people in the therapy room as well as with community leaders seeking out ways to provide mental health services.
As she navigates a new chapter, Michael is thrilled to be a part of the team at Mine Counseling PLLC.
Michael currently provides virtual sessions only which allows her to support clients all over the Lone Star State. So, book a session now! Michael is excited to work with you!

The saying “progress, not perfection” is one of her favorite sayings because each day is a new start to make some progress to where you want to be and there is no such thing as being “perfect” anyway. Life can be filled with many beautiful things including marriage, babies, and big moves, but it can also be filled with lots of uncertainty. Sometimes when faced with not knowing what will come next, it is time to reach out and get a little extra support.
Seeking help does not make you weak; in fact, it makes you immensely strong. You need that strength in order to get through the difficult times in your life. Shaii is dedicated to helping her clients find their inner strength and walk alongside them in order to help them use that strength to get through the not so beautiful times in life.
